All women want to have smooth and silky hair. They feel that any type of hair whether they are short or long, curly or straightgive an impressive look if they are shiny. The natural oil in the outer layer keeps the hair shiny and moist. The hair looks dull, dry and unhealthy when this layer is damaged. This condition can be due to several factors like nutritional deficiencies, exposure to sun and chemicals in hair care products, stress, use of hair dyes, age, minerals in water, excess chlorine in swimming pools and use of hair styling tools. There are several shampoos, serums, and branded conditioners to keep the hair shiny. But they may contain some harmful chemicals, hence simple home remedies are recommended to get shiny hair.
Home remedies to get shiny hair
- Mayonnaise is one of the easiest remedies for shiny hair. It is a deep conditioner which repairs damaged hair with the help of the amino acids and antioxidants in it. These properties help to strengthen the hair and give them a shine. Rub mayonnaise in the hair like a conditioner. Wrap the head with a plastic cap for 20 minutes. The heat that is trapped inside will open the pores and penetrate the mayonnaise deep inside. Wash well with warm water.
- Beer helps to strengthen and give a lustrous shine to the hair. Massage beer into wetscalp after shampooing the hair. Rinse and condition the hair.
- Black Tea is a perfect treatment to get glossy hair and prevent hair loss. The caffeine in tea also helps to darken the hair. Pour strong black tea into the head after shampooing the hair. Wrap the hair in a shower cap and leave it for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water.
- Avocados are rich in good fats that nourish and hydrate the hair. Peel and mash an avocado and mix little extra virgin olive oil or jojoba oil or sweet almond oil and whisk it properly. Apply the mask on wet hair and wrap the head with a shower cap. Leave it for 20 minutes before washing.
- Yogurt is another common ingredient which helps to strengthen and moisturize the hair. The cool and creamy consistency of yogurt gives a soothing and calm experience to the skin of the scalp smooth and calm. Apply yogurt liberally all over the scalp and hair and leave it for 30 minutes till it appears dry. Wash thoroughly with lukewarm water
- Rosemary and lavender are two herbs which can be safely used to strengthen and soften the hair. Boil equal amount of dried rosemary and dried lavender powder in water. Remove in another pot, add lavender and rosemary and stir well. Leave the liquid for 2-3 hours until it turns brownish in color. It can be stored in the refrigerator in a glass jar. Pour the liquid in the hair after shampooing the hair and leave it for some time before giving the final rinse with plain water.
- Apple cider vinegar is a natural hair detangler. It helps to soften and smoothen the hair by removing thedeposited dead skin cells on the scalp. Mix apple cider vinegar with water and pour it on the head after shampooing the hair. Leave it to condition in the hair and then wash it with water.
- Aloe Veragel can be used as an effective treatment for dandruff and to revive the lost natural shine of the hair. Aloe Vera gel can be mixed with any shampoo and as used as normal shampoo. It is much easier to use as it can be used in a short time.
- Honey is a common ingredient used in many hair treatments but is best to impart shine, add moisture and soften thehair strands. It helps keep the scalp healthy and clean. Mix honey with water and spray the liquid on the hair.
- Gelatin provides an effective treatment for dry and damaged hair by giving proteins to the hair follicles. Melt the gelatin by stirring it in a cup of warm water Add vinegar and a few drops of lavender, rosemary or lemon essential and mix well. Apply on the scalp; leave it for 10 minutes before washing with lukewarm water.
