Did the last 365 days pass in the blink of an eye? Umm, to be honest, I am as dazed as you are! Yup, it’s “New Year” time again – the time to rekindle your bag of dreams, wishes and desires and give another sincere shot at making them true.
Here’s how to give a heartfelt attempt at fulfilling your new year resolutions this year –
1. Introspect to decide on a resolution. It’s important to understand yourself, your strengths and weaknesses, your achievements and failures so far in life before zeroing in on any resolution. Its gives a clear picture of where you stand and where you want to go.
2. Being realistic is important. The enigma of “New Year” can seduce you to believe that you are an invincible superhuman as far as making things happen is concerned! Hold right there. Remember that resolutions must be pragmatic for them to be executable. For example, you cannot resolve to save 80% of your salary every month! Unrealistic. Period.
3. Write down your resolution and create a rough plan detailing your course of action to achieve your goal. Set timelines for each course of action. Being systematic will surely help.
4. Set yourself rewards for each small achievement against the plan of action. For example, if your resolution is to hit the gym every day, you can treat yourself with your favourite food after you have been able to hit the gym seven days in a row.
5. When you make a lot of resolutions your effort to fulfil them gets distributed and you might not succeed at any of them! That’s why it makes sense to make one concrete resolution which will have a significant impact in your life and put your heart and soul in achieving it.
6. Make a resolution when you are sober; not when you are in high “spirits” (here am talking about the 31st night spirits 😛 ). This way you will be able to think clearly on what exactly you want to improve on in your life and decide accordingly.
7. Allow yourself a grace day (i.e. 1st Jan 2016 In this year) to start your plan of action. If you partying hard on 31st Dec, most likely you will be spending the next day relaxing and getting back to reality! So it’s not possible to get a headstart on the first day of the year.
8. Understand that you do not necessarily have to make a resolution which poses an immense challenge to your mind or body. The theory of “Divide and Conquer” applies here too. If you want to achieve something really big, break it down into small goals and set your target on one part of it in this new year.
9. It can be a good idea to tell your resolutions to your colleagues/ friends/ acquaintances/ neighbours etc. This is the perfect situation where their nosiness (i.e. when they enquire about how far you have progressed) will do you some good. The embarrassment you want to avoid might actually become a source of motivation for you.
Fulfilling a resolution takes a lot of discipline and patience. Here you are putting yourself to test for 365 days at a stretch. So at the end, if you fall short by a speck, don’t forget to congratulate and appreciate yourself for bringing some order in your life (no matter how small it may be! 🙂 ).
P.S.: Yes, we are all perfect the way we are! But perhaps a little more perfection wouldn’t harm! 😉 Happy New Year my beauties!!
